Helpful hints that might make things easier for Phase 2.Examples:-Find out which employees are contacts for students.  Make sure the email and phone numbers match what is on their staff page.  Easier to match them up in export files. Maybe do a Google form to collect information to help-Tool Rights - Find out now what groups need to access (do Front desk people need access to teacher schedules, do ISS TA's (coordinators) need access to see discipline or student grades, etc., who  needs access to past calendars)  Come up with a good schema for groups-Staff Titles - make sure they are set for staff and closely follow your tool right schema. This will help assign staff to user groups in mass-Save PS attendance letters and other custom reports that could be used as templates in IC-Should elementary, middle and high school teachers be in different user groups (are you locking categories and weights for some but not others)Kate covered some of this in her SIS presentation-Data Cleanup !!-additional data to pull from Powerschool

Building Better Data Systems for Better Decisions LIMITED
Wednesday January 22, 2025 2:00pm - 2:50pm EST
Better decisions require better information. This guiding principle lies at the heart of the Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) Grant Program, which has helped fuel the successful design, development, and expansion of K-12 and P-20W (early learning through the workforce) data systems across the nation. These systems empower states to manage, analyze, and use education data—particularly individual student records—to drive data-informed decision-making, improve student outcomes, and facilitate research aimed at closing achievement gaps. However, as data systems have matured over the past decade, new challenges have emerged, particularly in meeting the evolving needs of education agencies and stakeholders. In this session, we will explore the ongoing evolution of the K12 Student Longitudinal Data System (SLDS), a cornerstone of the state’s educational data infrastructure. Specifically, we’ll focus on the challenges of modernizing the NC SchoolWorks system, which, despite being a heavily relied-upon resource, is struggling to keep up with changes in state agencies, Public School Units (PSUs), and data needs.  All these systems have a “piece of the puzzle,” but there is no single platform where our data exists, and no singular source of truth for student data – data exists in different forms in each system. We are seeking feedback from North Carolina school leaders and education stakeholders as we transition to a unified, integrated data system.  We want to hear from you—the individuals who are working directly with these data sources, generating reports, and using the insights to inform decisions at the local level every day.In this session, attendees will learn about:The current state of North Carolina’s data systems, including the fragmentation challenges and the impact on data accessibility and decision-making.The phased approach to modernizing NC SchoolWorks, including migrating to the cloud, enriching the data lake, and transitioning to a new reporting and analytic platform. The vision for a unified, integrated data system that can provide a single, comprehensive source of student data to drive actionable insights, improve student outcomes, and close achievement gaps.

Building Better Data Systems for Better Decisions LIMITED
Thursday January 23, 2025 11:00am - 11:50am EST
